The Weigh In

Today, I was 211.8! The weight is still coming down, albeit at a slower rate than before. This was expected though, so I’m not bummed at all. I’m actually glad to see it level off because that means this diet is more sustainable. My estimate is that I”ll continue to lose 3ish pounds a week until I’m at my goal weight. Not that I’m gonna stop at my goal weight, but that’s where my body will likely be most comfortable.

Home Cooking Rocks

One of the things I mentioned in an earlier post is trying to cook more. I’m living up to that, using my Julia Child books. I’ve made Cream of Mushroom soup, which was ruined by my choice in bouillon vs canned broth. I’ve also made a pork roast and au gratin potatoes: the roast was a little dry and the potatoes could’ve used more cheese. However, despite those failings, I still LOVED it!

Food tastes better when you slave over it. It helps you understand exactly what you’re eating and why it is you like certain foods. If you already know how to cook or live with someone who does, take advantage of it. I know it’s harder and more time consuming to cook vs buy take it, but it’s so worth it. In fact, my 6 year old (who’s a semi-picky eater) even tried and liked the roast. My 4 year old said, “Something cooking sure does smell good.” Nothing beats the feeling of knowing something you put together is enjoyed by those you love.

“Ate Too Much” Has a New Meaning

Back before I started One Minute Bite, I’d say, “Ohhhh…I ate too much” quite often. Usually, I was referring to the fact that I ate the equivalent of what is now 6 to 8 times what I eat per meal in less than 1/2 the time it takes me to eat one meal now. I would eat until I was quite literally about to burst. I’d have to take some “preemptive” antacid because I knew acid reflux was coming. I couldn’t lay down immediately because more often than I care to admit, I’d wake with a “I’m about to puke” feeling because the food had nowhere to go but up since it was so full.

Today, I “ate too much” for the first time since the I started this. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve “cheated” once or twice, i.e. eating 2 tacos instead of one. Today though, I went crazy: half a steak taco, small salad plus 1 thigh and 1 drumstick of chicken. Now, that’d be a snack in my old days. Today though, I full. I haven’t been full in a long time and even that is kinda gross feeling now. It’s pretty crazy how fast our bodies adapt to new behaviours. I doubt I’ll be “stuffing” myself again anytime soon, but it was a good reminder of why this diet is so good. It lets me eat what I want and still feel good/healthy. Gotta love that!

About Tom

I'm the founder of the One Minute Bite. I'm fat, but I don't do anything extreme that should make me fat...or so I thought. After taking a look at my habits and of those around me, I noticed something: Most people eat way too fast. I created One Minute Bite to help fight that. This website will track my progress as I put this diet plan to the test.

Tom, this is awesome! Just through the entire site (and an avid reader of your other two blogs). I like the simplicity of this and think it is awesome you are doing it.

One comment though….you are a geek and yet you don’t have a weight-tracking chart up yet? Try working out something in Excel or Micrsoft .NET charts or something. :) (of course maybe you are on it already and are waiting for more data)

Hmm…I replied but it seemed to have not made it through.

Glad you still read all the blogs. :) Be sure to update the spiritualtechies.com rss to the new one at spiritualtechies.wordpress.com

As for chart and data vis, I am working on stuff. I even have a time-lapsed video of my gut shrinking in the works! LOL Once I get more data, we’ll see some cooler stuff.
